Article Processing Charge

Note: Politics and Security Governance will charge an Article Processing Charge (APC) of GBP 0 for the publication of an article temporarily. The APC will be adjusted later based on the development of the journal. We will make a notification here when the time comes.

Politics and Security Governance (PSG) is an open-access journal under Porcelain Publishing. All articles published in PSG can be freely accessed from the journal's website. To ensure contents are freely available and maintain publishing quality, Article Processing Charges (APC) are levied on all authors whose papers are accepted for publication after peer review to cover the costs incurred in manuscript processing, such as copy-editing, typesetting, publishing, content depositing and archiving processes. Articles that do not require peer review such as letters, editorials, corrigenda, and addenda will be published free of charge. For more details, please refer to Porcelain Publishing Article Processing Charges.

In PSG, withdrawal of a submission refers to the removal of a new submission, a paper currently under peer-review, an accepted paper, or an Article in Press from the online submission system. In the event that authors insist to withdraw a submission on unethical and unreasonable grounds (see the following mentioned *unethical and unreasonable reasons*), a submission withdrawal fee at 30% of the prevailing Article Processing Charge will be levied on the authors. Submission withdrawal is also possible for accepted papers that have not been formally published, including the newly accepted papers and Articles in Press. Authors should note that any amounts of paid Article Processing Charge will not be refunded if their accepted papers or Articles in Press are withdrawn on the grounds of academic misconduct and ethical violations in research and publication.

APCs will not be refunded if articles are retracted due to the author's error or misconduct.

Unethical and Unreasonable Withdrawal of Submissions

Authors are expected to carefully consider their decision before submitting a manuscript to PSG. In cases where authors insist on withdrawing a submission for unethical or unreasonable reasons, a withdrawal fee equivalent to 30% of the prevailing Article Processing Charge (APC) will be imposed.

The Editorial Board considers the following as unethical or unreasonable grounds for withdrawal:

  1. Awareness of the Article Processing Charge (APC)
Authors are kindly advised to review the journal’s Article Processing Charge (APC) policy before submitting a manuscript. Submission to the journal implies acceptance of this policy and an intention to proceed with payment upon acceptance. Withdrawal requests based solely on unawareness of the APC, or reluctance to pay the APC after acceptance, may be considered unreasonable and subject to a withdrawal fee. We encourage all prospective authors to ensure funding or institutional support is in place before proceeding with submission.
  2. Availability of Research Data and Findings
Authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript meets the journal’s expectations regarding the presentation of relevant data and findings. While there is flexibility in how much data needs to be included, the journal encourages authors to provide sufficient information to support their interpretations and conclusions. If an author chooses to withdraw a submission due to concerns about sharing data or findings after submission, this may be considered an unreasonable basis for withdrawal. We recommend reviewing the journal's scope and data expectations before submitting.
  3. Preference for Alternative Journals Post-Submission
Authors are encouraged to carefully assess whether PSGis the right fit for their work before submitting. This includes consideration of the journal’s scope, academic standards, and visibility. Requesting to withdraw a manuscript solely for the purpose of submitting to a higher- or lower-impact journal may be considered an inappropriate reason for withdrawal. Submission implies that the authors find the journal suitable for the quality and focus of their work.
